Meg Forney's Top Three Priorties-2009

• ADVOCATE FOR OUR QUALITY OF LIFE

For District 6, encompassing half of our Lakes District, I will continue to advocate for the quality of life in Minneapolis that our Park System provides. My passion and leadership during more than 30 years of civic service has been to continue the tradition of providing green and open space for our urban livability. My work on the Above the Falls Committee will translate to more open space for the riverfront, thereby taking pressure off the Chain of Lakes. Likewise, the Midtown Greenway, on which Board I served, gives users of the system an extensive alternative venue.

• ASSURE EGALITARIAN ACCESS

I believe in egalitarian access to our parks and will be fervent in seeking strong funding for our neighborhood centers, hopefully avoiding the situation St. Paul faced, closing some 40% of its park centers. Our Park Board’s full autonomy must be realized to insure fiscal viability to continue to provide access to all.

• PRESERVE & STRENGTHEN CITIZEN INPUT

Having participated in many citizen groups and worked to actualize so much for our parks, I will preserve and strenghten our citizen input process utilizing my skills as a communicator & my relationship-building expertise. I will serve my constituents by being the conduit for communicating community goals to staff after developing policies for those objectives.
